Travel: Barmouth, Wales

Yesterday I took you to Corris, Wales to the King Arthur’s Labyrinth.  After our memorable day there we headed into the coastal town of Barmouth for dinner.  Our lovely hosts at the Penycoed Hall Guest House recommended we try The Mermaid for their infamous fish & chips.  My sister Zoë had arrived a few days later than the group and had yet to eat this British delicacy on this trip back…and was craving it!  I have had some delicious fish & chips and some i-regret-ordering-this-meal fish & chips during my time living in the UK.  I can definitely say that our experience at the Mermaid was wonderful, the service was fast, and the food was eaten before we knew it. We were able to snag a two tables for our party inside, but it ended up getting quite the que of people waiting to make their orders. It must be a very popular spot in Barmouth.
Afterwards we walked around the town, found a grocery store to stock up our kitchen back at the B&B, and took a stroll along the beach.  The beach photographs to follow soon as I recap our lovely 10th Anniversary adventure in Wales.  It was a lovely evening and a perfect end to another beautiful day leading up to our Vow Renewal.
Q: What are some of your favourite aspects or memories from visiting seaside and coastal towns?

I do not know if you have ever watched Gavin & Stacey but it is partially in Wales and that Chucks take-away looks right out of the show!

    A Golden State of Mind

I live in a fishing village on the coast so am lucky enough to be by the sea everyday.

When I leave it all behind I will miss the fish and chips (I have sausage), the sound of the waves and breath of the sea. I’ll miss the crazy seagulls that terrorise tourists whilst eating and the quirky festivals and traditions I am so used to! I’ll also miss the people.

Glad you had a good time!

I’ve been craving fish and chips for months now, but there just isn’t a good place to get some in Minnesota, USA! I loved looking at your photos, I could almost smell the salt air :)

I love Gavin and Stacey! That show actually came up while we were in Wales because my mum and sister have not seen it yet. I kept remarking how it reminded me of the episodes around their wedding. I just love the Welsh accents!

So beautiful and to the point where I realised I really need to start printing out photos I take and leaving them on hard drives. 😉

It is definitely one thing my sister really enjoyed while visiting from Washington DC. Well my mum too, as she lives in Arizona. She kept ordering fish at every meal! x

Thank you sweet Courtney. I hope you get to visit Barmouth and all over Wales…such a beautiful place! x

Oh you are lucky indeed Molly! I would love to live right along the ocean. I miss that from Hawaii, being able to see the sea every day. I love all the things you miss. Funny thing you said about seagulls, the ones here in Bath are bad (well maybe not as bad as the ones we had in Brighton). But we had one take a hamburger while we were out at the park here! x

That is the worse when you are craving food and cannot get it. I’ve been craving Germknodel from Austria since I last had it at 16. One day I will get back there for it.

Thank you Andi, I am so glad you enjoy checking out all the photography, especially the ones from Wales.

Right? I love all the details of the town. I know…the worse about looking at photos on other expat sites are the food you cannot get. 😉

When my mother came to visit me last year we sat in on a rainy day and watched the whole series and we kept trying to do the accent to no avail, my husband on the other hand can do a few words so I hear them a lot!
